How we rank roofers
Every contractor on Roofing Rated gets a single 0–100 score from a fixed, published formula — not a popularity contest, and never a paid placement. Here’s exactly how the number is built.
The four factors
The composite score is a weighted sum of four sub-scores (each 0–100):
Reputation
Aggregated rating across Google, BBB, Yelp & Angi, weighted by review volume (log scale so a few hundred reviews don’t bury an honest smaller firm).
Track record
Years in business, breadth of completed work, and the strength of the workmanship warranty offered.
Credentials
State licensing, liability insurance, bonding, and manufacturer certifications (GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, James Hardie).
Service & transparency
Free estimates, financing, written contracts, local focus, and how easy the company is to reach and book.
composite = reputation×0.3 + track×0.25 + credentials×0.25 + service×0.2
The 0–100 composite is then shown as a 0–5.0 star score (score ÷ 20).
About review data
We aggregate ratings and review counts from third-party platforms (Google, BBB, Yelp, Angi, Facebook). We do not copy or host the review text, and we don’t independently verify individual reviews.
What money can and can’t do
- ✓ Verification & Featured — contractors can claim their profile, correct their details and pay for a Featured card and lead delivery.
- ✗ Ranking position — is determined only by the formula above. It is never for sale. Sponsored items, where present, are clearly labelled and sit outside the editorial ranking.
Honesty notes
- Every company — including #1 — lists real pros and cons.
- This is an alpha: some metrics are drawn from public signals and our research and are marked for confirmation as we complete first-party data collection.
- Rankings are editorial opinion, updated periodically (last: June 2026).
